Supreme Motown Karaoke Party
August 5, 2 p.m.
Get some inspiration from The Supremes costumes and then sing along with The Supremes and learn some Motown dance moves. Get your 15 minutes in the spotlight! All ages and abilities welcome. Free with museum admission

Ages 3-1/2-5
The Artist in Me!
Children will create projects with different media, listen to stories and enjoy visits to the exhibits in the Carriage, Art and History Museums. Students may sign up for one, two or three sessions.
Session III: August 13, 15, 17, 10 a.m.-noon

Ages 5-7
The Art of Imagination
Students will use different media to create projects that reflect their own imaginations. The week will end with an exhibit of student work. Students may sign up for one or both sessions.
Session II: August 6-10, 10 a.m.-noon

Ages 7 and Up
Drawing and Painting with Elizabeth Greaf
Elizabeth Greaf will teach drawing techniques and lead students through the process of creating watercolor landscape paintings.
Session II: August 7, 8, 9, 1-3 p.m.

Ages 8 and Up
Make Your Own Motown Video
Here’s your chance to learn the steps made famous in the Motor City and be part of a Motown Revue! A professional photographer will film the revue and each participant will receive a DVD to take home.
Session II: August 13-17, 10 a.m.-noon

Clay Animal Creations


Tour paintings of cougars, bears, flying squirrels and deer in our exhibit Audubon’s Animals of North America and design your own animal. Students will make sketches, shape their creatures with air-dry clay and paint the finished products.

Ages 12 and up
Fashion Illustration
Learn how to draw costumes like those worn in Dreamgirls! After a visit to our exhibit of gowns worn by The Supremes, students will learn some basic techniques of fashion illustration and create their own designs.
Session II: August 14, 15, 16, 1-3 p.m.


EXHIBITIONS

Through September 9
William Sidney Mount: The Education of an Artist
Exhibition exploring the career development of America’s best known genre painter. Pairs Mount paintings, drawn from the museum’s collection, with works of other American artists who had a tremendous influence upon his work. On display in the Art Museum.

June 9 – October 21, 2007
Spectacular Achievements: Audubon’s Animals of North America
Exhibition containing 79 original hand-colored lithographs from John James Audubon’s magnum opus, The Viviparous Quadrupeds of North America. Represents some of the few remaining records of now extinct animals. Includes works from the museum’s own collection of Audubon’s birds. On display in the Art Museum.

July 21 – October 21, 2007
The Supremes, Reflections: The Mary Wilson Supreme Legacy Collection
Exhibition exploring the exciting history of one of America’s most popular groups ever, The Supremes in 55 drop-dead gorgeous gowns. Chronicles the history of the costumes and Motown, and its connections to Civil Rights history and social and political change in the 1960s. On display in the History Museum.
